Maths Tutoring for the Northern Beaches & North Shore
Better Tuition Academy (BTA) provides one-on-one maths tutoring for students from Year 3 to Year 12, from eight academies across five locations on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and North Shore: Belrose, Brookvale, Forestville, Mona Vale and Gordon.
BTA employs over 80 tutors organised into three expertise tiers, matched to each student’s year level and subject requirements. Whether your child needs to build foundational number skills, catch up before exams, or push through HSC Extension content, BTA’s maths tutors work at the student’s pace with fully customised lesson plans.
Sessions are available in-academy, online, or at home, with no lock-in contracts.

Maths Tutoring for Every Year Level
Years 3 to 6
Primary School Maths
One-on-one support for number and place value, fractions, multiplication, early algebra, measurement, and geometry. BTA tutors build strong foundations before high school and prepare students for NAPLAN with targeted practice in the key testing areas.
BTA offers targeted coaching for NAPLAN maths (Years 3, 5, 7 and 9) and the Selective School Test. Sessions focus on the specific question types and reasoning skills tested, building both accuracy and confidence under timed conditions.
The tests at this stage
NAPLAN Numeracy
Years 3 and 5, over a two-week window in March
Online, with no calculator: about 45 minutes in Year 3 and about 50 minutes in Year 5, with many questions set as worded problems.
OC test: Mathematical Reasoning
Sat in Year 4, for a place in Years 5 and 6
35 questions in 40 minutes. Mathematical Reasoning is closer to careful reading than to arithmetic.
Selective test: Mathematical Reasoning
Sat in Year 6, for a place in Year 7
35 questions in 40 minutes. The arithmetic is almost always within reach; the difficulty is working out what the question is asking.

High School Maths

About 65 minutes, with a non-calculator section and a longer section where an on-screen calculator is available.

How a maths lesson runs
Here the arithmetic was right and the reading was not. Answering a slightly different question is the largest single category of lost marks in Mathematical Reasoning, and it only shows up when someone reads the working.
