Parent & Student
- Behaviour & Conduct Policy

At Better Tuition Academy, we believe every student learns best in an environment where they feel supported, respected, and confident.

Clear expectations for behaviour help us maintain a positive learning atmosphere for students, tutors, and families.

This policy outlines the shared responsibilities that allow lessons to run smoothly, safely, and effectively—whether online, in-home, or at our academies.

Our goal is not to be punitive, but to ensure that every child receives the highest-quality learning experience possible.

Student
Expectations

To make the most of each lesson, students are expected to:

Be Prepared

  • Bring required learning materials

  • Complete assigned homework or revision tasks

  • Be ready to begin promptly at the scheduled start time

Engage in the Lesson

  • Listen to the tutor’s guidance

  • Ask questions when unsure

  • Participate actively in activities and discussions

  • Maintain a growth mindset — mistakes are part of learning

Maintain Respectful Behaviour

  • Speak kindly and respectfully

  • Use appropriate language

  • Follow instructions

  • Keep devices and environments distraction-free

Meet Environment Expectations

  • Online: camera on, quiet workspace, no lying in bed

  • In-home: remain in the public area for the full lesson

These expectations help build the habits that lead to strong academic progress.

Parents play a key role in setting students up for success.

We ask that parents:

Provide a Safe & Suitable Environment

  • Online: ensure a quiet space, functioning device, and internet connection

  • In-home: ensure a responsible adult is present and public space is available

Use Approved Communication Channels

All administrative communication must go through BTA Operations via:

  • SMS to BTA Operations (+61 456 380 051)

  • Phone call to 1800 002 085

Parents should not arrange scheduling changes, cancellations, or administrative matters directly with tutors.

This prevents miscommunication and ensures consistent, reliable lesson management.

Maintain Respectful Communication

We are here to help. Respectful communication with tutors and staff ensures issues can be addressed quickly and effectively.

Behaviour
Support Plan

(When Needed)

If a student:

  • Frequently arrives unprepared

  • Does not engage

  • Behaves in a disruptive or disrespectful manner

  • Refuses to participate

  • Consistently ignores tutor instructions

  • Repeatedly creates an unsuitable learning environment

The tutor will notify BTA Operations.

Our Supportive Process

1. Tutor submits a Behaviour Note via flagging your child’s lesson

2. BTA contacts the parent to discuss the tutor’s concern

3. A Behaviour Support Plan is created, which may include:

  • Adjusting expectations

  • Improving preparation routines

  • Changing lesson format (online → academy, etc.)

  • Additional support from a Senior Educator

4. Progress is reviewed over the next 2–3 weeks

Our approach is supportive, not punitive.

We aim to uncover what’s blocking the student and find strategies that help them move forward.

If behaviour continues despite a Behaviour Support Plan, BTA may recommend:

  • A different tutor

  • A change of lesson style (e.g., online → academy)

  • A different teaching structure

  • Temporary pause of lessons until readiness improves

These decisions are made to protect the quality of learning and ensure tutors can work effectively.

Tutors cannot be placed in unsafe, disrespectful, or unproductive environments.

Respectful Conduct
Toward Tutors & Staff

BTA has a zero-tolerance policy for:

  • Abusive language

  • Aggressive behaviour

  • Harassment or intimidation

  • Threatening conduct

  • Discriminatory remarks

  • Boundary breaches

If such behaviour occurs, BTA may:

  • Suspend lessons immediately

  • Reassign staff

  • Cease services entirely

Our priority is safety and wellbeing for both students and tutors.

Academic Integrity

Students must not request that tutors:

  • Complete assignments for them

  • Write essays

  • Solve exam questions they intend to submit

  • Provide answers rather than explanations

Tutors will teach concepts, guide problem-solving, and help build understanding.

This ensures genuine skill growth and confidence.
