Start with the module, then find your text
Every HSC English course is built around modules, and every module has its own prescribed texts. The Standard and Advanced material comes first below - the four modules, then the English Studies texts - and the Extension 1 index follows it.
These pages are written by our English tutors for the students we teach, so they follow the way we run a lesson rather than a textbook. If your text is not here, call us on 1800 002 085 and we will tell you what we have.
English Standard & Advanced
HSC English Modules
Standard and Advanced students sit the Common Module, then Modules A, B and C. Each module page lists every prescribed text we hold analysis for, EAL/D texts included.
Standard, Advanced and EAL/D
Common Module
Texts and Human Experiences - the module every senior English student sits.
Standard, Advanced and EAL/D
Module A
Language, Identity and Culture for Standard; Textual Conversations, where a pair of texts is read against each other, for Advanced.
Standard, Advanced and EAL/D
Module B
The close study of literature for Standard and the critical study of literature for Advanced - one text, read closely.
Standard and Advanced
Module C
The Craft of Writing - short prescribed texts read for the way they are written, then your own imaginative, discursive or persuasive piece.

BTA Study Guides
The texts students ask us about most, written up in full and set out the way we teach them: themes with the evidence attached, quote banks, and how to turn either into an argument a marker can follow. Free to read, like everything else on this page.

The same lesson, online
Unable to get to an academy? An online lesson is the same one-on-one lesson, run through Microsoft Teams. Same tutor, same tier, same rate - the only thing that changes is that nobody has to drive.
The tutor works on a shared board while they teach, so your child watches the working appear rather than listening to it described, and can stop the lesson to ask. Afterwards the notes and boards come through to revise from.
Plenty of our families use it alongside in-academy lessons rather than instead of them, and switch between the two as the term demands.
