Online Lessons
& Recording Policy
Online lessons provide students with convenient, flexible access to high-quality tutoring from anywhere. To maintain safety, engagement, and learning effectiveness, we follow clear expectations for how online sessions are conducted.
These policies ensure that online lessons remain just as productive and supportive as in-home or in-academy sessions.
By enrolling with BTA, families consent to online lessons being recorded for
safety, training, and quality assurance.

Lesson Platform
- Microsoft Teams
All BTA online lessons are delivered through Microsoft Teams, using a secure browser link provided in your weekly reminder email.
One huge benefit of Microsoft Teams is that no app download is required.
Students can join lessons on:
-
Laptop/Desktop (recommended)
-
iPad/Tablet
-
Phone (less ideal but allowed when needed)
This ensures lessons are quick and easy to access.
To ensure safety, accountability, and effective learning:
-
Students must keep their camera on throughout the lesson
-
Tutors keep their cameras on as well
-
Camera placement should show the student’s face clearly
Cameras allow tutors to pick up visual cues, check understanding, and maintain a safe environment.
If a camera cannot be on (rare cases):
Please notify BTA Operations before the lesson starts.

Online Learning
Environment Requirements
For an effective lesson, students should:
-
Join from a quiet, distraction-free space
-
Sit at a desk or table (not lying in bed)
-
Have all materials ready (books, calculator, homework, device)
-
Ensure background noise is minimised
-
Keep microphones on unless background noise is disruptive
The following are not appropriate online learning environments:
-
Lying in bed
-
Dark rooms without lighting
-
Walking around the house
-
Attending from a moving vehicle
-
Loud or chaotic environments
BTA may reschedule a lesson if the environment is unsuitable and you may be charged.
To ensure a smooth lesson:
-
Families should provide a stable internet connection
-
Headphones are recommended for improved focus
-
Tutors will follow BTA procedures if a student repeatedly disconnects
When major technical issues occur:
-
Lost time may be made up where possible
-
Or added to a future lesson at BTA’s discretion

Lesson Recording
Policy
For safety, quality assurance, and training:
-
Online lessons are recorded
-
Recordings are stored securely and are automatically deleted after 60 days
-
Only authorised BTA staff may access recordings, but students are able to see their own recorded lessons, and tutors are able to see their own recorded lessons.
Recordings protect students, tutors and help maintain BTA’s high standards.
Parents may request access to recordings involving their child either by accessing the Teams link at which the lessons took place (it can take up to 24 hours to show in there after the session takes place) or by contacting BTA Operations.

Communication Boundaries
Online
To maintain professionalism:
-
Tutors may message students only about learning content
-
All scheduling changes must go through BTA Operations
-
Tutors do not accept cancellations, reschedules, or administrative requests
This keeps communication organised and prevents missed information.
Students are expected to:
-
Be on time
-
Keep their camera on
-
Engage respectfully
-
Avoid multitasking (e.g., gaming, messaging, YouTube)
-
Work on set tasks during independent practice
These habits ensure each lesson remains productive and supportive.
