In-Home
Tutoring Policy
In-home tutoring provides a warm, personalised learning environment for students.
To ensure the safety, comfort, and professionalism of everyone involved, Better Tuition Academy follows clear guidelines aligned with NSW Child Safe Standards and our own BTA Child Safety Policy.
These expectations protect students, tutors, and families, while maintaining the high-quality learning environment BTA is known for.

Adult Presence
Is Mandatory
For all in-home lessons:
-
A parent or guardian must be present on the property for the full duration of the lesson
-
The supervising adult must be physically accessible (not sleeping, showering, or off-site)
This requirement is non-negotiable and ensures optimal safety for students and tutors.
To maintain visibility, safety, and professional boundaries:
-
Lessons must take place in a common area such as:
- Kitchen
- Dining room
- Living room
- Study nook visible from communal spaces
-
Lessons must not take place in:
- Bedrooms
- Closed offices where visibility is limited
- Basements or secluded areas
This ensures all tutoring is conducted in safe, appropriate environments.

Lessons Must Occur in a Public Space

If No Adult
Is Present
(10 - Minute Rule)
If a tutor arrives and no adult is present:
-
Tutor waits outside the home
-
Tutor immediately contacts BTA Operations who then contact the parent/guardian.
-
A 10-minute grace period is provided
-
If after 10 minutes no adult is available →
-
The tutor leaves
-
The lesson is charged in full
This protects tutor safety and ensures compliance with our child safety obligations.
To ensure an effective lesson:
-
Students must be ready with all materials (books, device, homework, stationery)
-
Distractions (tv, device notifications, siblings, pets) should be minimised
-
The lesson area should be clean, reasonably quiet, and appropriate for focused learning
Creating this environment helps students get the most out of each session.

These boundaries protect both tutors and families.

-
An adult is not present
-
A family member behaves aggressively or inappropriately
BTA will take immediate steps to keep all parties safe and supported.
